Dietary habits associated with breakfast consumption among medical students of Hanoi Medical University in 2023

Abstract

Breakfast phays a crucial role but is often the most neglected meal, especially among university students. Furthermore, medical students belong to a high-risk group who frequently skip breakfast, and the rate is increasing. This study aims to describe the current status of breakfast skipping and analyzes several factors associated with this behavior among medical students. Method: A cross- sectional descriptive study was conducted on 384 students from Hanoi Medical University. The analyzed variables include breakfast skipping status, the relationship between awareness, economic conditions, sleep status, weight control, clinical studies, and clinical study with breakfast skipping. The results showed that 69.53% of students skipped breakfast. The main reasons for skipping breakfast among students include lack of time, not feeling hungry, and not having the habit of eating breakfast. The rate of students living with friends who skipped breakfast was higher than those living in dormitories. The rate of skipping breakfast did not significantly differ across gender groups, BMI, awareness, economic status, sleep status, and weight control.
