Nutritional status and associated factors of elderly in-patients at Hanoi Medical University Hospital

Abstract
A cross-sectional study on 264 patients was conducted to evaluate the nutritional status and certain associated factors of elderly in-patients treated at Hanoi Medical University Hospital from March 2023 to May 2024. The results showed that the percentage of at risk of malnutrition and malnutrition among the elderly patients assessed by MNA were 70.1% and 12.5%, respectively. The proportion of women at risk of malnutrition and suffering from malnutrition was 92.3%, higher than men (74.8%) (OR = 4,04; 95%CI: 1,82 - 8,97; p < 0,05). There is an association between nutritional status according to BMI and MNA and anemia in the elderly. MNA tool application in clinical practice will benefit early detection of nutritional problems, thereby minimizing the risk of complications and death.
