Abstract

The study aimed to evaluate the effects of low-sugar Kien Luc Hong Ma beverage (KLHM) on blood pressure in hypertensive rats. Hypertension was induced in Wistar rats through subcutaneous injection of hydrocortisone at a dose of 25 mg/kg/day and oral administration of 1% NaCl at a dose of 10 mg/kg/day for 28 consecutive days. Following the induction period, hypertensive rats were administered KLHM at 20.4 and 40.8 ml/kg/day or hydrochlorothiazide at 25 mg/kg/day for seven days. Systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, and heart rate were measured using a non-invasive tail blood pressure measurement system one hour after the initial KLHM administration and seven days after treatment. Additionally, the heart weight of the rats was determined at the end of the study. The results indicated that KLHM, at both doses, did not significantly affect blood pressure, heart rate, or heart weight of Wistar rats with hypertension induced by hydrocortisone and NaCl.
