Abstract

Unhealthy nutritional habits can cause nutritional abnormalities that have serious consequences for children’s health and well-being later in life. A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted to evaluate the validity and reliability of the NutriSTEP toolkit for use in community-based nutritional risk screening. The study involved 205 preschool children aged 36 to 59 months attending Lac Trung Preschool in Hanoi, Vietnam. The research results demonstrated that the NutriSTEP toolkit has a Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient of 0.64, indicating acceptable internal consistency. Bartlett’s Test revealed a statistically significant correlation matrix (p-value = 0.00). The Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) index was 0.701, and EFA analysis showed that Eigenvalues for factors 1 and 2 were both greater than 1, explaining a total of 90.55% of the variance. Conclusion: The 11-question NutriSTEP toolkit has the potential to be a valid and reliable tool for screening nutritional risks among preschool children in community settings.
