Evaluation of the anti-gastroduodenal ulcer effects of Safcumin suspension in rats
Main Article Content
Abstract
The study evaluated the anti-ulcerogenic effects of Safcumin suspension against cysteamine-induced gastric ulcers in Wistar rats. Gastric lesion was induced by oral administration of cysteamine at two doses of 400 mg/kg. The rats were pretreated with Safcumin suspension at 2.4 or 4.8 mL/kg for 7 days. Compared with the control ulcerated group, oral pre-treatment with Safcumin at both tested doses significantly reduced gastric ulcer formation, as shown by decreasing the percentage of animals with ulcers, the mean number of ulcers, and the average ulcer index. It may be concluded that both doses of Safcumin suspension possess gastric ulcer protective potency. These findings supported the scientific evidence for Safcumin administration in the complementary treatment of gastric ulcers.
