Abstract

Osteoporosis is a condition identified by decreased bone strength that raises the likelihood of fractures. This research study aimed to explore the association between bone density and blood calcium levels in postmenopausal women to enhance the knowledge available to healthcare providers for diagnosing, treating, and preventing osteoporosis. The study involved 306 postmenopausal women undergoing regular health evaluations at Hanoi Medical University Hospital between December 2023 and May 2024. Blood calcium levels and bone density at the femoral neck and lumbar vertebrae were measured using DXA for all participants. Our findings indicate significant bone density reduction and osteoporosis prevalence in postmenopausal women, despite low rates of ionized and total calcium abnormalities (p < 0.05). Consequently, effective clinical management of osteoporosis in this demographic necessitates vigilant monitoring of bone density, regardless of normal calcium levels.
