Evaluation of thrombocytopenia in patients with sepsis at Hanoi Medical University Hospital
Main Article Content
Abstract
Thrombocytopenia (< 150 G/L) is a common laboratory finding in critically ill patients, particularly those with sepsis. This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence and associated factors of thrombocytopenia within the first 24 hours of admission in sepsis patients at Hanoi Medical University Hospital from January 2021 to December 2023. Among 231 sepsis patients, the prevalence of thrombocytopenia within the first 24 hours of admission was 34.2%, with mild (100 - <150 G/L), moderate (50 - <100 G/L), and severe (< 50 G/L) thrombocytopenia rates of 15.2%, 11.7%, and 7.4%, respectively. Admission to the emergency department was associated with thrombocytopenia (aOR = 1.89, 95%CI: 1.06 – 3.36). Thrombocytopenia was an independent risk factor for septic shock and in-hospital mortality in sepsis patients but did not increase the risk of 7-day mortality (HR = 3.5; 95%CI: 0.9 – 13.6).
