Diagnosis and treatment of limbic encephalitis associated with anti-LGI1 antibodies: A case series
Main Article Content
Abstract
We describe 5 clinical cases of limbic encephalitis associated with anti-LGI1 antibodies diagnosed and treated at Hanoi Medical University Hospital in 2023 and 2024. The 5 patients, consisting of 4 females and 1 male, aged from 26 to 75, were admitted with various initial diagnoses (psychiatric disorders, psychogenic seizures). Key symptoms leading to clinical diagnosis were seizures and abnormal motor movements in the hand-face region, accompanied by rapidly progressing cognitive decline. All cases responded well to high-dose corticosteroids but showed a tendency to relapse during the tapering phase. Second-line immunosuppressants such as Mycophenolate Mofetyl and Rituximab were highly effective in preventing disease relapse.
