Comparison of characteristics and outcomes of pre-eclampsia between spontaneous pregnancy and in vitro fertilization pregnancy
Main Article Content
Abstract
Objective: In vitro fertilization has been confirmed as one of the risk factors for preeclampsia. A retrospective study describes and compares the characteristics and pregnancy outcomes between 93 pregnant women who underwent in vitro fertilization and 381 pregnant women who had preeclampsia from January 1, 2023 to December 31, 2023 at the National Hospital of Obstetrics and Gynecology. The comparison was performed between the spontaneous pregnancy group and the IVF pregnancy group: Average maternal age: 30.2 ± 6.0 years old and 33.2 ± 6.1 years old (p < 0.05). The prevalence of severe PE: 57.2% and 52.7%. The prevalence of multiple pregnancy: 4.2% and 22.6% (p < 0.05). Average gestational age: 34.7 ± 3.1 weeks and 35.0 ± 3.1 weeks. The prevalence of cesarean delivery: 97.1% and 100%. Indications for cesarean section were mainly due to severe preeclampsia or ineffective treatment, 69.3% and 84.9%. Average fetal weight at birth: 2104.1 ± 856.4g and 2255.9 ± 774.6g. Complication rates of placental abruption, eclampsia, and HELLP syndrome were 1.1%, 0.4%, and 2.3%, respectively, mostly in the spontaneous pregnancy group. Intrauterine growth retardation rate was 45.1% and 25.8% (p < 0.05).
