Abstract

The study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of catgut embedding therapy in the patients of persistent allergic rhinitis. This study was designed as a controlled interventional clinical trial, comparing before and after treatment. Sixty patients diagnosed with persistent allergic rhinitis were divided into 2 groups, according to the method of homogenous pairing of age, gender and symptom severity based on the Total nasal symptoms score. Both groups received a standard treatment (Loratadine 10 mg orally once daily and Fluticasone furoate nasal spray, 2 sprays per nostril per day, for a 30-day treatment period). The study group also was treated by catgut embedding therapy twice, on the first and fifteenth days of the treatment. After 30 days, both groups demonstrated significant improvement of the clinical symptoms (p < 0.05) and the study group achieved greater improvement than the control group (p < 0.05).
