32. Experiences of nursing lecturers and students of University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Hue University on online teaching method during the COVID-19 pandemic: Results from qualitative research

Abstract

This study aims to describe the experiences of nursing lecturers and students on the advantages, limitations and proposed solutions to improve the effectiveness of online teaching methods. A qualitative research was conducted on 5 lecturers and 21 nursing students using semi-structured in-depth interviews and group discussions at University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Hue University from June 2022 to December 2023. The results showed that nursing lecturers and students have different experiences with online teaching methods.. The advantages for lecturers were flexible teaching environment and improving lecturers' skills; for students there are advantages of a flexible learning environment, student-centered learning and increased learning efficiency. Limitations for both groups of research subjects included limitations of the learning environment, reduced learning effectiveness, and difficulty in assessment. Recommendations for lecturers and students included training facilities, lecturers and students. It can be concluded that online teaching activities bring some practical advantages at the time of the epidemic; however, overcoming limitations and providing solutions to improve the quality of online training is essential.
