35. Factors associated with clinical practice competence among nursing students at Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy in 2024

Abstract
The study aimed to determine the relationship between the clinical practice competence of nursing students and their characteristics. A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted among 98 third- and fourth-year students at Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy. Our study found a significant relationship between the clinical practice competence of nursing students and the academic year, and confidence in learning (p < 0.001). Specifically, fourth – year students, and those with high confidence in learning demonstrated better clinical practice competence compared to other groups. However, no significant difference was observed in clinical practice competence with regard to gender and academic performance (p > 0.05). Therefore, educational institutions should enhance practical training at hospitals and healthcare facilities for students starting from their third year. Teachers should also create a learning environment that fosters confidence and integrates theoretical knowledge with hands-on practice to improve the clinical skills of nursing students.
