Abstract

This is a cross-sectional descriptive study on 494 students at Le Thanh Ton High School, Ho Chi Minh City from January to August 2023. We conducted a study with the objective to determine the prevalence of stress coping strategy preferences and related factors among students at Le Thanh Ton High School, Ho Chi Minh City in 2023. The prevalence of students choosing the disengagement coping strategy was higher than the engagement strategy, 55.1% and 44.9% respectively. Our findings also identified factors associated with a tendency to cope with stress through avoidance strategies, including infrequent confiding in friends, infrequent participation in extracurricular activities, and poor relationships with family members. Therefore, timely intervention strategies from parents and educators are necessary to assist students to acquire coping tactics and sufficient skills to deal with and resolve stress.
