Abstract

This cross-sectional study was conducted on 188 senior tudents from Hanoi Medical University between August 2023 and November 2023 using a pre-prepared questionnaire. The objective of the study was to describe the current caffeine consumption and sources of caffeine used by students at Hanoi Medical University during the 2023 - 2024 academic year, as well as to analyze factors related to caffeine consumption among students. The results showed that 166 (88.3%) participants reported using caffeinated beverages. Among these, tea was the most commonly consumed beverage (74.7% of participants). The consumption rate among females was relatively high (75.3%), with the main reasons were for taste and staying awake. Caffeine from coffee had the highest reported dependency among consumers (31.8%). GPA was found to be a factor related to caffeine consumption among final-year students (p < 0.05). We recommend to promote awareness regarding the recommended levels and the harms of excessive caffeine consumption to prevent abuse of caffeine among students.
