2. Prognostic value of preoperative serum CEA, CA 19-9, and CA 72-4 levels in patients with gastric cancer
Main Article Content
Abstract
Tumor markers CEA, CA 19-9 and CA 72-4 are amongst most commonly used indicators in clinical practice in gastric cancer treatment. The study was conducted to determine the sensitivity, specificity, and relationship between these three markers and histopathological characteristics, gastric cancer stage. Results showed that CEA had the highest sensitivity and specificity for lymph node metastasis with cut-off point of 1,975 ng/mL (0.71 and 0.72), while CA 19-9 was only 0.45 and 0.63, respectively at 8.48 UI/ml and CA 72-4 was 0.58 and 0.72 at 1.42 UI/ml. CEA were correlated with the T stage, lymph node metastasis and histopathological differentiation. There is a relationship between CA 72-4 and lymph node metastases (p < 0.05), but no correlation between CA 19-9 and the above.
