Abstract

Influenza is one of the common causes of respiratory infections in children. The study described 374 pediatric patients diagnosed for influenza with respiratory complications from October 1, 2022 to September 1, 2024 at the Center for Tropical Diseases, National Children's Hospital. Most patients in the study were under 60 months old (86.6%). The most common clinical symptom was moist rales (51.6%), 42.2% had respiratory failure. Children under 48 months of age (OR = 1.98, 95% CI: 1.30 - 3.0), patients with chronic respiratory diseases (OR = 9.27, 95% CI: 3.10 - 28.14), neuromuscular diseases (OR = 7.48, 95% CI: 2.93 - 19.10) and cardiovascular diseases (OR = 5.37, 95% CI: 1.66 - 17.38) had a higher risk of respiratory failure than the normal group of patients. Common bacterial co-infections were Heamophilus Influenza (53.1%) and Streptococcus pneumoniae (29.2%). Most patients recovered completely.
