Abstract

We retrospectively evaluated outcomes of central nervous system germ cell tumor patients (CNS GCTs) treated at the Pediatric Department of K hospital from 2017 to 2021. 44 patients were classified as low risk (LR) or high risk (HR) based on pathologic diagnosis and tumor markers. The median age at diagnosis was 13 years old (range, 11.1 - 15), 79.5% were males and 77.3% of patients were LR. The most frequent tumor location was pineal gland (29,5%) and sellar/suprasellar (29.5%). The 5-years overall survival and event free survival rates were 81.8% và 77.5%, respectively. The 5-year OS of the LR was higher than the HR groups (88.2% and 60%; p = 0.037) but there was no significant difference in the 5-year EFS between 2 groups (LR 82.4% vs 60%; p = 0.074). Most of mortalities were related to disease progression. Conclusion: The strategy of treating CNS GCTs with chemotherapy and radiation therapy according to risk groups resulted in good clinical outcomes. However, further research is needed to monitor the long-term complications.
