Nutrition status in preoperative patients with gastric cancer at Thai Binh Province’s General Hospital 2021-2023

Abstract
Gastric cancer is the most common malignancy among all cancers. Nutritional status before surgery is an important factor, affecting the indications for treatment as well as the patient's recovery. The study assessed the nutritional status of 120 gastric cancer patients with surgical indications from 2021 to 2023 at Thai Binh Provincial General Hospital. Results: 34.2% of patients were malnourished according to BMI, the proportion of patients who lost weight ≥ 5% in the last 1 month was 16.7% and less than 5% was 71.6%. 76.6% of patients were at risk of malnutrition according to PG-SGA, of which PG-SGA C (severe SDD) was 15.8%. 25.9% of patients had decreased serum albumin (< 35 g/L), 45.8% had anemia and 35.8% had protein less than 65g/L. Conclusion: The rate of malnourished gastric cancer patients, at risk of malnutrition before surgery was high. It is necessary to have timely and appropriate nutritional interventions to increase the effectiveness of treatment and quality of life for patients.
