Abstract

This cross-sectional study was conducted on 1340 patients diagnosed with chronic urticaria (CU) at the Urticaria and Chronic Urticaria Clinic, National Hospital of Dermatology and Venereology, Hanoi, from February 2023 to July 2024, to describe the distribution and analyze the differences between CU subtypes in Vietnam. The findings indicated that chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU) was the  most prevalent subtype, accounting for 81.8% of cases. Among patients with chronic inducible urticaria (CIndU), dermatographism was the predominant subtype (89.3%). A female predominance was observed across both CU subtypes. The duration of CSU was significantly shorter than CIndU (p < 0.001). Patients with isolated CSU exhibited eosinopenia, reduced total IgE levels, elevated erythrocyte sedimentation rate, increased anti-TPO IgG, and positive autologous serum skin test in results compared to those with isolated CIndU group or CSU with concomitant CIndU (p < 0.05). No significant differences between CU subtypes regarding age of onset or atopic history were found. In conclusion, the distribution of CU subtypes in Vietnam is aligned globally, with CSU and dermatographia being the most common subtypes. Isolated CIndU and CSU with concomitant CIndU demonstrate comparable clinical and paraclinical characteristics.
