Abstract

Concomitant strabismus is the most commonly encountered form of strabismus. Its management includes refractive error correction, amblyopia treatment, and surgical alignment of the ocular axes. Currently, there is a trend toward early surgical intervention to facilitate amblyopia treatment and promote binocular visual development. Our study aims to evaluate the surgical outcomes following treatment of concomitant strabismus at Ha Dong Ophthalmology Hospital. This study included 18 patients with concomitant strabismus who underwent surgical treatment from September 2019 to September 2022, with a minimum follow-up period of six months. The results showed that 83.3% of patients achieved good ocular alignment, 11.1% had moderate outcomes, and 5.6% had poor outcomes. The prevalence of amblyopia decreased from 22.2% to 16.7%, while the rate of binocular vision increased from 38.8% to 50%. 16.7% of patients had postoperative complications. In conclusion, surgical treatment of concomitant strabismus provides favorable ocular alignment outcomes; however, improvements in visual function remain limited.
