Evaluation of treatment results of knee osteoarthritis by intraarthritis injection of autologous platelet-rich plasma
Main Article Content
Abstract
Autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has been proven to be highly effective in treating knee osteoarthritis. PRP helps regenerate articular cartilage, fight inflammation, thereby reducing pain and increasing mobility for patients. This longitudinal intervention study was conducted to evaluate the treatment results of knee osteoarthritis by autologous platelet-rich plasma injection at Vietlife clinic and associated factors affecting this method treatment results. 224 patients diagnosed with knee osteoarthritis according to ACR 1991 criteria were included in this study . Treatment results were evaluated by VAS pain score and WOMAC functional index. After 4 months of treatment, the average VAS score decreased from 6.2 to 3.1. WOMAC score decreased from 72.4 to 29.4. Notably, there was improvement of VAS and WOMAC scores as early as 1 month after the first injection. The decrease in VAS and WOMAC scores was greater in younger patients and in mild degenerative disease, continue for up to 4 months. The common side effect was pain at the injection site which usually resolved within 3 days.
