Survey of nutritional status in pediatric patients with primary antibody immunodeficiency at Vietnam National Children’s Hospital
Main Article Content
Abstract
Primary antibody immunodeficiency predisposes individuals to recurrent and prolonged infections, which may negatively impact nutritional status. Conversely, malnutrition, micronutrient deficiencies can compromise immune function, thereby exacerbating the severity of the underlying immunodeficiency. A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted to assess the nutritional status of children with primary antibody immunodeficiency at the National Children’s Hospital. The study included 43 pediatric patients (aged 1 to 18 years old) diagnosed with primary antibody immunodeficiency and treated at the National Children’s Hospital from January 1, 2024 to January 1, 2025. The rates of stunting and wasting were 16.3% and 4.6%, respectively, including 4.7% with severe stunting and 2.3% with severe wasting. The risk of stunting and wasting was 39.5% and 30.2%, respectively. The rates of micronutrient deficiencies were: 25.5% deficient or insufficient in vitamin D, 62.8% deficient in ionized calcium, 79.1% deficient in zinc, and 60.5% deficient in iron.
