Accidents while using mobile phones and related factors among students of Hanoi Medical University in 2020 - 2021
Main Article Content
Abstract
The number of accidents caused by the using mobile phones among pedestrians is increasing. Therefore, we conducted a study to describe the pedestrian accidents caused by using mobile phones and related factors of Hanoi Medical University students. We investigated the relationship between factors related to the accident rate when using the phone of 380 students with a questionnaire developed according to Piazza’s research. The results show that the percentage of students using cell phones and having an accident in the past month is 49.47% and 48.62% respectively. Some of the associated factors include: awareness of using the phone when crossing the street, behavior of making or receiving voice or video calls (aOR= 2.03; 95%CI: 1.03 - 3.97), behavior of accessing the Internet (aOR=2.84; 95%CI :1.35 - 5.97). We suggest that students’ knowledge of the accident situation and associated factors are utterly essential for effective intervention development.
