7. Serum Methadone concentration in opioid - dependent patients receiving methadone maintenance therapy

Abstract
Steady-state plasma methadone concentration is considered an indicator for quantifying methadone metabolism and can serve as a surrogate marker for treatment response and efficacy. We evaluated the relationship between serum drug concentration and therapeutic dose adjustment of trough serum levels. It is known that 150 - 600 ng/mL range in methadone maintenance therapy effectively suppress opioid use. Trough serum methadone concentrations in 200 patients with methadone therapy were quantified using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). The mean serum concentration in the study was 257.59 ± 212.62 ng/mL, showing a strong correlation with the therapeutic dose (Spearman's Rho = 0.65).
