Main Article Content
Abstract
This study aimed to describe the prevalence of depression, anxiety, and stress among parents of children with transfusion-dependent Thalassemia at Thai Binh Pediatric Hospital during the period of 2024 - 2025. A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 84 parents, using the DASS-21 (Depression Anxiety Stress Scales) to assess psychological disorders. The findings showed that 45.2% of parents were at risk of having at least one of the three psychological disorders. The prevalence rates of depression, anxiety, and stress were 27.4%, 28.6%, and 21.4%, respectively. Common symptoms included feelings of hopelessness, lack of interest, hand tremors, and difficulty relaxing. A strong linear correlation was found between depression, anxiety, and stress, with stress symptoms being a strong predictor of both depression and anxiety. These findings highlight the urgent need for comprehensive and timely mental health education and psychological support programs for parents of children with Thalassemia. Further in-depth studies are also needed to identify associated factors contributing to the psychological disorders among caregivers.
