Abstract

Da Day hoan Ba Giang is formulated as a combination of medicinal herbs, intended to support the treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers. This study was conducted to evaluate the acute and subchronic toxicity of the product in experimental animals. Acute toxicity was assessed in Swiss mice by administering increasing oral doses to determine the lowest dose that caused 100% mortality and the highest dose that caused no mortality. Subchronic toxicity was evaluated in Wistar rats at two dosage levels: 4.32 and 12.96 tablets/kg b.w/day over a 60-day period. The results showed that at the highest dose of 187.5 tablets/kg, Da Day hoan Ba Giang did not cause death or any abnormal signs in mice. Furthermore, both tested doses (4.32 and 12.96 tablets/kg b.w/day) had no adverse effect on general conditions, body weight, hematological and biochemical parameters, or microscopic morphology of the liver and kidneys in the rats. In conclusion, Da Day hoan Ba Giang did not cause acute or subchronic toxicity when administered orally at the tested doses in experimental animals.
