Abstract

Congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) is a genetic endocrine disorder often associated with metabolic disturbances, including dyslipidemia, a significant cardiovascular risk factor. This cross-sectional study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of dyslipidemia and explore its associated factors among 73 children aged 1 - 17 years with CAH treated at the Vietnam National Children’s Hospital. Hypertriglyceridemia was the most common lipid abnormality (42.5%), followed by elevated total cholesterol (15.1%), and increased low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) (12.9%). Additionally, decreased high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) was observed in 16.1% of cases. There were no statistically significant differenceobserved across body mass index categories or clinical subtypes of CAH. Nonetheless, adverse lipid profiles showed a trend toward association with factors such as younger age, obesity, and vitamin D deficiency. These findings provide practical data on lipid disturbances in children with CAH, suggesting directions for further research into endocrine-nutritional-metabolic interactions in this population.
