Results of the volumetric modulated arc therapy (vmat) in the treatment of prostate cancer at National K hospital
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study was performed to assess the effectiveness of VMAT (Volumetric modulated Arc Therapy) for prostate cancer treatment at the Vietnam National Oncology Hospital. A retrospective analysis of VMAT plans was performed for 30 prostate cancer patients treated during the period of September 2017 to June 2021 at Vietnam National Oncology Hospital. Results showed that the average age of diagnosis is 69 years old. The percentages of patient diagnosed at stages I – IV were 3.3%, 33.3%, 36.7% and 26.7% respectively. 100% of patients treated have PSA level < 4ng/ml. Acute grade 1 genitourinary (GU) toxicity was found in 73.7% of patients and G1 gastrointestinal (GI) toxicity in 26.7% of patients. G1 late genitourinary toxicity accounted for 30%, patients with G1 were 20%. There was no patient with late toxicity G3 and G4 symptoms, no patient with skeletal complications. Thus, this study showed that patients treated with VMAT had less adverse affects in comparison with those who were treated with 3D-CRT, shorter treatment duration than those receiving IMRT treatment and disease progression free survival time prolonged.
