Abstract

HLA-DQ is a cell surface receptor protein found on antigen-presenting cells. The polymorphisms and mutations of this gene could affect the immune system and the progression of hepatitis B. This study was conducted to identify the relation between single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) rs2856718 of HLA-DQ with liver fibrosis progression among patients with chronic hepatitis B. In total, 108 blood samples of liver cirrhosis patients and 112 blood samples of chronic hepatitis B patients have been collected and genotyped for SNP rs2856718 using TaqMan Realtime-PCR assay. The results showed that rs2856718 genotype GG, GA and AA frequency of the cirrhosis group was 44.4%, 40.7% and 14.8% respectively where as the chronic hepatitis B group was 32.1%, 46.4% and 21.4%; however, the difference was not statistically significant. The frequency of alen G was higher in the cirrhosis group than in the chronically infected group with statistical significance (p = 0.043). In conclusion, rs2856718 in HLA-DQ gene could affect liver fibrosis progression in HBV chronic infected patients.
