79. Bone mineral density in patients with stable cervical cancer at the National Hospital of Traditional Medicine

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate bone mineral density (BMD) and associated factors in patients with stable cervical cancer at the National Hospital of Traditional Medicine. A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 80 cervical cancer patients. Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) was performed at the lumbar spine and femoral neck to assess BMD. The results showed that the prevalence of severe osteoporosis was 12.5%, osteoporosis 61.2%, and osteopenia 21.3%. The mean T-score decreased progressively with increasing age (p < 0.05). Patients with a disease duration of more than 5 years had significantly lower T-scores compared with those with ≤ 5 years (p < 0.05). Menopausal timing, whether before or after cancer treatment, did not significantly affect T-scores (p > 0.05). In conclusion, the prevalence of osteoporosis among women with cervical cancer was high (73.7%). The mean T-score was inversely associated with age and disease duration but was not related to menopausal timing before or after cancer treatment.
