Abstract

Workplace violence in healthcare is a serious global issue that affects the physical health, mental well-being, and job performance of healthcare workers, with nurses being particularly vulnerable. This study was conducted at Hanoi Medical University Hospital from October to December 2024 to describe the prevalence of workplace violence against nurses and analyze associated factors. A cross-sectional descriptive design was applied to 397 eligible nurses. The results showed that within the 12 months before the survey, 45.6% (n = 181) of nurses reported experiencing at least one incident of workplace violence. Verbal abuse was the most common form, accounting for 44.3% (n = 176), followed by sexual harassment at 4.5% (n = 18) and physical violence at 2.8% (n = 11). Factors associated with a higher risk of violence included 1 - 5 years of work experience, mostly in outpatient clinics, internal medicine wards, or intensive care units, highlevels of concern about violence, as well as witnessing physical violence in the workplace.
