Abstract

A cross-sectional study was conducted on 2,325 patients who had COVID-19 in Hanoi, Bac Giang, and Lao Cai (April 2023 – March 2024) to characterize several aspects of cognition. After phase 1 of screening for psychiatric disorders, 672 people with positive screening were assessed for cognitive status by psychiatrists. Cognitive tests used were Test Your Memory, Trail Making Test, and Digital Span Test. According to the Test Your Memory scale, some items had lower scores, including general knowledge (0.9 ± 1.0), finding similarities (2.5 ± 1.5), and remembering sentences (2.7 ± 1.7). According to the Trail Making Test scale, the proportion of people exceeding the warning time threshold was 13.9% for TMT-A (≥ 78 seconds) and 10.4% for TMT-B (≥ 273 seconds). The mean score of the reverse Digital Span was 3.8 ± 2.3. These findings provide an important scientific basis for the development of screening and early intervention programs to improve cognitive function in patients after the pandemic.
