Abstract

A cross-sectional study was conducted at the National Hospital of Pediatrics among 104 children with epilepsy and their parents to investigate factors affecting their quality of life. Data were collected by interviewing parents and reviewing medical records. Generic health-related quality of life was evaluated by Pediatric Quality of Life InventoryTM 4.0 Generic Core Scale, Vietnamese version. The factors that significantly decreased the health-related quality of life in children with epilepsy included current learning status, age at onset, duration of epilepsy, number of antiepileptic drugs, frequency of hospitalization, duration of hospitalization, response to treatment, education and occupation of parents. These factors will be useful for clinicians in epilepsy management, which will enhance health-related quality of life in children with epilepsy.
