Evaluation of Wound Healing and Scar Outcomes in Patients Undergoing Conventional Circumcision at the Andrology and Sexual Medicine Department, Hanoi Medical University Hospital, in 2025
Main Article Content
Abstract
The wound healing process and scar formation after circumcision significantly affect both the physical and psychological well-being of patients. Delayed wound healing or excessive scar formation may lead to complications such as pain, wound dehiscence, hypertrophic scars, or keloids, causing discomfort during urination and sexual activity. Unsightly scar appearance can reduce self-confidence and increase anxiety, particularly among young male patients. In addition, improper postoperative care or infection may prolong recovery time, increase treatment costs, and negatively impact quality of life. To evaluate and improve postoperative care quality, this study was conducted on 81 patients who underwent conventional circumcision at the Andrology and Sexual Medicine Department of Hanoi Medical University Hospital. The mean age was 27 years old (range: 16 – 53), with most participants having a university-level education or higher (82.7%), living in urban areas (70.4%), and single (70.4%). After 3 days, 10.6% of wounds were well-healed; this rate increased to 88.9% at the time of suture removal. After 6 weeks, 53.1% had aesthetically pleasing scars, while 4.9% developed poor-quality scars requiring treatment.
