Abstract

Measles is an acute infectious disease caused by the measles virus, which can lead to severe complications and fatality. This study described the epidemiological and clinical characteristics of children with measles at the Hanoi Children Hospital in 2024 - 2025. A total of 659 cases were collected, with the age group under 9 months old accounting for the highest proportion (43.7%) and a male-to-female ratio of 1.7:1. More than 57.4% of the children were unvaccinated, and 8.2% had underlying diseases. The most common complication was pneumonia (80.1%), followed by gastroenteritis (56%). Respiratory failure occurred in 110 children (16.7%). Children with underlying diseases had a 3.69-fold higher risk of developing severe complications (95% CI: 2.04 - 6.67; p < 0.001) and high fever (> 39°C) increased the risk by 1.57 times (95% CI: 1.02 - 2.42; p = 0.039).
