Quality of life among patients following minimally invasive lumbosacral spinal fixation surgery at selected hospitals in Hanoi

Abstract
A descriptive cross-sectional study (using the SF-36 and Oswestry Disability Index - ODI) was conducted on 115 patients following minimally invasive lumbosacral spinal fixation surgery at selected hospitals in Hanoi in 2025. After at least six months, 84.3% of patients achieved a “Good” Quality of Life. The average ODI score was 23.2 ± 20.1, with 68.7% classified as having “Minimal disability”. Univariate analysis identified four statistically significant associated factors: level of functional impairment, post-discharge rehabilitation, duration of illness before surgery, and living conditions. However, multivariate regression analysis revealed that the ODI was the sole independent predictor of QOL (Adjusted OR = 0.108, p < 0.05). Minimally invasive lumbosacral spinal fixation achieved a high rate of “Good” QOL. Spinal functional impairment is the strongest and sole independent predictor of postoperative quality of life outcomes.
