Abdominal wall skin necrosis following liposuction-abdominoplasty: Two case reports and a literature review
Main Article Content
Abstract
Abdominal wall skin necrosis is a severe complication that may occur after liposuction combined with abdominoplasty. The main contributing factors include excessive liposuction of the central abdominal region, inappropriate surgical techniques, and excessive tension during abdominal flap closure. Management of this complication typically requires prolonged wound care and multiple surgical interventions. We report two cases of abdominal wall skin necrosis following liposuction-abdominoplasty performed at private medical facilities. Both patients required approximately two months of treatment and underwent two operations. The first procedure involved surgical debridement of necrotic tissue combined with negative pressure wound therapy at the defect site. The second procedure aimed to achieve defect coverage using either a full-thickness skin graft or local rotational flaps from both sides of the abdominal wall. These cases highlight that abdominal wall necrosis significantly affects patients’ psychological well-being, aesthetic outcomes, and increases the overall cost of the treatment. The aim of this study is to describe the causes and current management approaches for abdominal wall skin necrosis after liposuction-assisted abdominoplasty.
