Dental caries and pulp stones in patients with osteogenesis imperfecta
Main Article Content
Abstract
The study was conducted to describe the prevalence of dental caries and pulp stones in patients with Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI). A total of 98 patients aged 2 – 19 years old were examined in a cross-sectional descriptive design. Dental caries was assessed using the ICDAS system and dft/DFT indices, while pulp stones were identified on panoramic or periapical radiographs in patients with mixed and permanent dentitions. The results showed a high prevalence of dental caries (79.6%). Primary dentition was the most affected, with a mean dft score of 7.3 ± 5.88, followed by the mixed and permanent dentitions; the differences among the three groups were statistically significant. The number of restored teeth was low across all groups, indicating unmet needs in dental care for children with OI. Pulp stones were detected in only one patient, reflecting a low prevalence within the studied age range.
