Abstract

This prospective study was conducted to evaluate the clinical and ultrasound findings of patients with plantar fasciitis, to assess the effectiveness of treating plantar fasciitis with ultrasound-guided local corticosteroid injections, and to investigate the adverse effects of this method at Bach Mai Hospital. The study included 24 patients diagnosed with plantar fasciitis between September and November 2025. The average age of the patients was 53.04 (30 – 70 years old), 79.2% were female, and the average BMI was 22.44 kg/m². The mean VAS pain score decreased from 8 before injection to 2.25 after 1 week and 2.21 after 4 weeks. The foot function index (FFI) decreased from 58.27% before injection to 18.17% after 1 week and 18.05% after 4 weeks. Differences in VAS and FFI scores before and after injection at 1 week and 4 weeks were statistically significant (p < 0.05). No complication or adverse effect were reported after injection. The results indicate that ultrasound-guided local corticosteroid injection is an effective treatment method to reduce pain, to improve motor function, and is safe for patients with plantar fasciitis.
