A study on acculturative stress among international students at Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy

Abstract
A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 175 international students at Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy to assess the level of acculturative stress and its related factors. The Acculturative Stress Scale for International Students (ASSIS) was used for data collection. The results showed that overall acculturative stress ranged from low to moderate, with most students scoring below the alert threshold. The analysis revealed statistically significant associations between acculturative stress and English proficiency, the level of preparation before arriving to Vietnam, type of participation in international programs, academic major, country/territory of origin, and religion, while gender and marital status showed no significant relationship. These findings highlight the relatively good cultural adaptation of international students in Vietnam and suggest the importance of language support, pre-departure preparation, and enhanced student support services to improve the learning experience.
