Characteristics of post-abortion bleeding after vacuum aspiration for pregnancies up to 12 weeks at the National Hospital of Obstetrics and Gynecology
Main Article Content
Abstract
A cross-sectional study of 380 women undergoing vacuum aspiration for pregnancies up to 12 weeks at the National Hospital of Obstetrics and Gynecology showed a high procedure success rate (98.9%) and low complications (0.8%). Most participants experienced mild bleeding lasting less than 7 days. There was great adherence to post-procedure hormonal contraceptives (72.9%) and it was significantly associated with bleeding outcomes; women who overlooked or did not adhere to contraceptive use were more likely to have bleeding lasting over 7 days. Overall, vacuum aspiration was safe and effective, and improving adherence to hormonal contraceptives may reduce prolonged post-abortion bleeding.
