Abstract

IgE derived from plasma cells plays an essential role in rapid hypersensitivity. The combination of specific IgE and antigens results in an antigen-antibody complex which triggers the release of chemical mediators from mast cells. The complex kinetics of IgE in serum mean that the timing of sample collection may alter the test result. In the absence of re-exposure to the allergen, the blood concentration of IgE will gradually decrease over time. Compared to other diagnosis methods, specific IgE test offers distinct advantage: it is easy to perform, has fewer complications and readily available. In 2020, the World Allergy Organization (WAO) continued to recommend the specific IgE test as a screening tool for causative agents of immediate hypersensitivity, especially in cases of anaphylaxis
