Abstract

A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 200 outpatient type 2 diabetes patients at Luc Yen Health Center, Lao Cai province. The study was conducted on 200 patients, with a relatively balanced gender distribution (52% male, 48% female) and the highest proportion in the 45 - 60 years old age group (52.5%). The medication adherence rate according to the MMAS-8 scale reached 86%. The majority of patients take their medication as prescribed and experienced few side effects; however, more than half did not carry their medication when going out. Analysis of related factors showed that the age group ≥ 60 years old had a higher risk of non-adherence compared to the group under 60 (p < 0.05), while duration of diabetes ≥ 5 years was associated with better adherence (OR > 1; p < 0.05). Ethnicity also had a statistically significant association with treatment adherence. Medication adherence in diabetic patients is high, but attention should be paid to older age groups and social factors to improve treatment effectiveness.
