Endoscopic characteristics and treatment outcomes of Helicobacter pylori eradication with the PALB regimen in patients with gastroduodenal peptic ulcer disease
Main Article Content
Abstract
Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) – associated gastroduodenal peptic ulcer disease is a common gastrointestinal disorder, and characterization of endoscopic findings together with evaluation of the effectiveness of the PALB regimen is clinically meaningful for treatment optimization. A cross-sectional descriptive study with longitudinal follow-up was conducted on 96 patients with gastroduodenal peptic ulcer disease and H. pylori infection to investigate endoscopic characteristics and assess the outcomes of H. pylori eradication with the PALB regimen at Tay Ninh General Hospital. The results showed that the most common endoscopic lesions were flat erosive gastritis with atrophy (38.5%) and erythematous gastritis with atrophy (27.1%). Ulcers were predominantly multiple (95.8%) and most commonly measured 5 – 10 mm (65.6%). After treatment, the overall clinical improvement rate was 81.2%, with the most marked improvement observed in abdominal pain (96.9%). The overall H. pylori eradication rate was 67.7%, and the most frequently reported adverse effects were fatigue, nausea, and headache. Most patients demonstrated good treatment adherence (77.1%). The eradication success rate was significantly higher in the good-adherence group than in the poor-adherence group (78.4% vs 31.8%, p < 0.001).
