rs72552713 polymorphism of the ABCG2 gene and its association with serum uric acid levels in patients with gout

Abstract
Gout is an inflammatory arthritis caused by the deposition of monosodium urate crystals in the setting of persistent hyperuricemia. This study aimed to investigate the characteristics of the rs72552713 polymorphism of the ABCG2 gene and to evaluate its association with serum uric acid levels in patients with gout. A cross-sectional analytical study was conducted on 150 gout patients treated at Lanh Binh Thang General Hospital from June 2025 to January 2026. The results showed that the GG genotype accounted for 93.3%, while the GA genotype accounted for 6.7%; the frequencies of the G and A alleles were 96.7% and 3.3%, respectively. Multivariable linear regression analysis demonstrated that the GA genotype was independently associated with increased serum uric acid levels, with a mean difference of 74.07 µmol/L (95% CI: 7.52 – 140.62; p = 0.029). These findings suggest that the rs72552713 polymorphism of the ABCG2 gene may influence urate metabolism, supporting the role of ABCG2 protein as an important transporter involved in uric acid excretion in the human body.
