Abstract

The study was conducted on 392 patients with gastritis, including 196 patients infected with Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) and 196 non-infected patients. The proportions of male and female patients were relatively similar, and the 31 – 59 years age group accounted for the majority. Epigastric pain was the most common clinical symptom. Patients presenting with ≥ 3 symptoms showed a statistically significant association with H. pylori infection (OR = 2.06; 95% CI: 1.12 – 3.78). Analysis of the IL-1β C+3954T polymorphism showed that the CT genotype had the highest frequency (50.0%), while the CC and TT genotypes each accounted for 25.0%; the frequencies of the C and T alleles were equal (50,0%). Under the dominant genetic model, the CC genotype was associated with a higher risk of H. pylori infection compared with individuals carrying at least one T allele (OR = 1.73; 95% CI: 1.08 – 2.76; p = 0.020). However, no statistically significant association was observed between this polymorphism and the number of clinical symptoms (p > 0.05).
