Abstract

Khoi Tim Bavieco capsules are an herbal formulation developed for the treatment of gastric and esophageal disorders. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of Khoi tim Bavieco capsules on a diet-induced experimental model of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) in Swiss mice. The animals were divided into five groups: the control group and the model group received distilled water, while the remaining groups were administered esomeprazole (20 mg/kg/day), Khoi tim Bavieco capsules at 2 doses of 0.96 capsules/kg/day and 2.88 capsules/kg/day for 7 consecutive days, respectively. Mice in groups 2 to 5 were subjected to GERD induction using an alternate-day fasting diet (one day feeding, one day fasting) for 56 consecutive days. Afterward, the animals received the test drugs or distilled water for 7 days. The evaluated parameters included reaction time and epigastric pain threshold, gastric juice pH, and macroscopic and histopathological changes of the esophagus. The results showed that Khoi Tim Bavieco capsules tended to increase reaction time and epigastric pain threshold, significantly reduced the macroscopic lesion scores of the gastro- and esophageal mucosa, and improved histopathological lesions of the esophagus. These findings suggest that Khoi tim Bavieco capsules can alleviate lesions in a diet-induced experimental GERD model in Swiss mice.
