Abstract

A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 108 patients with bipolar disorder combined with depression periods to identify factors associated with suicidal behavior. The results showed that 39.8% of patients exhibited suicidal behavior, including 24.1% with suicidal ideation and 15.7% with suicide attempts. Suicidal behavior is associated with younger age, a disease duration of ≤ 3 years, treatment non-adherence, and previous suicide behaviors. Depressive symptoms such as feelings of guilt, loss of interest, and a pessimistic view of the future significantly increased the risk of suicidal behaviors. Multivariate logistic regression analysis identified three independent associated factors: shorter duration of illness, history of suicide behaviors, and a pessimistic view of the future. These findings highlight the importance of early identification and active intervention in the early stages of the illness to reduce the risk of suicide in patients with bipolar disorder.
