Abstract

A cross-sectional study was conducted to describe the current status of medication adherence and identify factors associated with adherence among hypertensive outpatients at Hoang Mai Town Medical Center in 2025. Data were collected from 523 patients attending the Outpatient Department from March to May 2025. Medication adherence was assessed using the Morisky Medication Adherence Scale (MMAS-8). The results showed that the medication adherence rate was 95.4%, including 75.9% with good adherence and 19.5% with moderate adherence, while 4.6% were non-adherent. The proportion of patients achieving target blood pressure was 41.7%. Patients using two or more antihypertensive medications had higher odds of adherence than those using one medication (OR = 3.5; 95% CI: 1.3 – 9.6; p = 0.011). No statistically significant association was found between medication adherence and the other factors examined. Greater emphasis should be placed on optimizing treatment and the management of lifestyle-related factors to improve blood pressure control.
