Critical thinking and associated factors among nursing students at Hung Vuong University in 2026
Main Article Content
Abstract
Critical thinking is an essential competency skill in nursing education and plays a crucial role in developing clinical decision-making abilities, as well as improving the quality of patient care and treatment. In Vietnam, studies on critical thinking among nursing students in the Northern region remain limited. This study aimed to assess critical thinking and its associated factors among nursing students at Hung Vuong University. A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 194 second-, third-, and fourth-year nursing students at Hung Vuong University. Critical thinking skills were measured using the Critical Thinking Skill Assessment Scale (CTSAS), and self-efficacy was evaluated using the General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES). The results showed that the mean critical thinking score of students was 173.3 ± 44.4. Self-efficacy, academic year, part-time employment, and clinical practice experience were identified as factors associated with critical thinking among nursing students. Educational programs should integrate appropriate teaching methods and provide practical learning environments to effectively enhance students’ critical thinking.
